The Various Types of Commodities

Commodity trading has been one of the most popular and reliable forms of trading on the market over the years. One of the best benefits of commodity trading involves the various types of commodities that are available for trading. There are all sorts of commodities that can be traded throughout the world, and these have various different products that are constantly being introduced onto the market for trading.

One of the most popular types of commodities is that of metals. Most of the metals that are available for trading are traded at the London Metal Exchange. These include copper, aluminum, tin, lead and zinc. In fact, steel has become one of the most popular of the metals for trading. There are some precious metals that can also be traded. These include gold and platinum, which are two of the most valuable commodities to trade. These can generally be found through exchanges in Chicago and New York.

Agricultural products are traded throughout the world. Most of the transactions here are based at the Chicago Board of Trade, although the New York Board of Trade has some agricultural products available for trade. Wheat, corn, coffee, soybeans and cotton are among the most popular of these products in commodity trading.

At the Chicago Mercantile Exchange livestock can be traded. There are four general types of commodity trading products in this area. These can live cattle, feeder cattle, pork bellies and lean hogs. With meat prices continuously changing across the world these are especially interesting commodities to trade, and while these are especially traded in Chicago they can be bought through most general brokers that deal with commodity trading.

Energy sources can be traded as well. The New York Mercantile Exchange is the most popular of the stock exchanges where energy can be traded. General items like gasoline, oil, natural gas and propane are traded here. Crude has been as especially popular type of product for trading. With the growth of ethanol in recent years it has become a popular commodity to trade on the market, and its main stock exchange is the Chicago Board of Trade.

There are a few unique types of commodities that are available for trading, but in most cases the main stock exchanges that are handling these are foreign based. The London Metal Exchange, for instance, trades polyethylene. Rubber can also be traded at the Singapore Commodity Exchange.

These are all types of commodities to check out. These commodities can be traded throughout the world, and there are various different categories of commodities to find. With all of these types of products available for trading it is no surprise that these commodities are as popular around the world as they are right now.
